Become a Case Manager for Hearts for Homes: Make a Lasting Difference in the Lives of Denton County Seniors

Are you someone who finds joy in connecting with older adults, listening to their stories, and helping them stay safe and comfortable in their own homes? If you have a heart for seniors and want to turn that compassion into meaningful action, becoming a Case Manager with Hearts for Homes could be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.

Hearts for Homes is a Denton County nonprofit dedicated to helping low-income seniors repair and maintain their homes so they can age in place with dignity and independence. Through repairs, modifications, and ongoing support, the organization prevents isolation, reduces safety hazards, and keeps seniors connected to their communities.

The Case Management Program: Constant Support for Seniors

At the heart of what we do is our Case Management Program. We believe repairs are only one part of the solution—seniors also need consistent, caring contact before, during, and after projects are completed. Case Managers provide that vital ongoing relationship, ensuring our clients never feel alone in the process.

As a volunteer Case Manager, you become a trusted friend and advocate. You’ll help coordinate repairs, connect seniors with additional resources, and simply be there to listen and offer encouragement. This personal touch makes all the difference in helping Denton County seniors feel supported and valued.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking compassionate, reliable individuals who:

  • Have a genuine heart for seniors and enjoy spending time with them

  • Are good listeners and natural communicators

  • Are organized and detail-oriented enough to help coordinate services

  • Can commit to monthly committee meetings and occasional follow-up visits or calls

  • Value building real friendships with older adults in our community

No advanced degree or professional social work background is required—just empathy, a willingness to learn, and a desire to help local seniors thrive.

What Case Managers Do

Our Case Management Committee plays a critical role in our mission. Here’s what you’ll help accomplish:

  • Screen and interview homeowner applicants to understand their needs and situations

  • Meet monthly as a committee to review applications and approve those ready to move forward to our Project Management team

  • Maintain personal contact with homeowners before, during, and after their home repair projects—building trust and ensuring everything goes smoothly

  • Invite homeowners to our special Heartbeat Testimonial Dinner, where they can celebrate completed projects and share their stories

  • Lead our Christmas Baskets Project, bringing holiday cheer and practical support to seniors during the season

  • Assist with our annual satisfaction survey, helping us understand how we can serve our clients even better

These tasks combine meaningful personal interaction with important behind-the-scenes work that keeps our programs running effectively.

The Real Impact on Denton County Seniors

Your work as a Case Manager directly transforms lives. Many of the seniors we serve live on fixed incomes, face mobility challenges, or feel increasingly isolated. By coordinating repairs (like roof fixes, wheelchair ramps, or plumbing updates), you help prevent dangerous living conditions and potential institutionalization.

But the emotional support you provide is just as powerful. Regular check-ins, friendly conversations, and knowing someone cares can reduce loneliness, improve mental health, and give seniors the confidence to stay in their homes—the place they love most.

One senior helped through our program recently shared: “Knowing Hearts for Homes was there for me made all the difference. I didn’t feel forgotten anymore.” That kind of testimony is what keeps our volunteers coming back.
